Five questions that clarify a teaching career
- Which age group do I want to work with?
- Do I want to teach a curriculum subject, English as a language, or provide specialist support?
- Is the role regulated in the country where I want to work?
- What experience will employers expect in addition to qualifications?
- Which professional-development course would add something my current profile does not already show?
What employers usually evaluate
Although requirements differ, education employers commonly look at the relevance of your academic background, teacher preparation, experience with the age group or subject, safeguarding awareness, classroom-management ability, communication, references and evidence that you understand the curriculum or role.
International employers may also consider document verification, visa eligibility, language proficiency and whether your professional status can be recognised in the destination.
