TEFL and TESOL are most valuable when the course matches the teaching context you plan to enter. Someone preparing for a language centre, an international school, online tutoring and Business English may all need different combinations of methodology, language awareness and practical teaching experience.

Treat the number of course hours as one part of the decision. Curriculum coverage, assessment, opportunities to practise, your own English proficiency and the requirements of the employers you intend to approach matter just as much.

Course completion does not by itself guarantee eligibility for a regulated teaching post. Teacher registration, licensing, visa and employer requirements vary by country and role.

Certification

The current 120-hour TEFL page states that selected learners may receive a University Certificate Issued Jointly through LCT's academic partnership with Paris University of International Education. Confirm eligibility and the certification format for your chosen programme before enrolment.

Common questions

What is the difference between TEFL and TESOL?

TEFL usually describes preparation for teaching English where English is a foreign language, while TESOL is a broader term covering English teaching to speakers of other languages. Employers often care more about course depth, assessment and your wider qualifications than the acronym.

Which TEFL level should I choose?

A beginner usually starts with the 120-hour Certificate. Higher Diploma, Advanced Diploma, PG Diploma and Master-level options make more sense when you need additional depth, specialist study or a stronger professional portfolio.

Is a 120-hour TEFL enough for entry-level teaching?

It is a common entry-level study length, but it does not guarantee eligibility for a job. Employers and visa systems may also consider your degree, nationality, English proficiency and experience.

Can I teach English online with TEFL?

TEFL methodology is directly relevant to online English teaching, but each platform or employer sets its own hiring requirements. Online teaching also requires skill in virtual lesson design, pacing and learner engagement.
